The Clay Café – Ceramic Painting and Restaurant in Hout Bay, Cape Town
The Clay Cafe experienced a tragic fire on the 15th June 2018, however, they are 100% operational as it did not affect the main painting area, restaurant and playground. Pay them a visit to show your support.
The Clay Cafe is a family run ceramics business founded in 1999. In 2016 they moved to a 2.5-acre piece of land which is situated in the heart of the valley of Hout Bay, Cape Town. The Clay Cafe is an ideal day out for a ‘one of a kind’ creative experience for all of the family.
Visitors and guests are invited to choose from a selection of ready-made pottery pieces which they are to decorate using an array of paint and tools - creating your own personal masterpiece. They have over 300 unique pieces of unpainted bisque to choose from ranging from crockery to figurines. Each person, young and old is given the chance to indulge in their own personal ceramic creation while they sit back, relax and let the Clay Cafe do the rest. All items are left on the premises to be fired and glazed and can be collected after 3 weeks.
The outside space at the Clay Café offers a large open patio, where every table is close to the luscious garden and every child is ecstatic with the fantastic playground which is available for kids booked in for the painting.
The Clay Café has stunning outside tables too which are perfect for those sunny days.
The Clay Café caters for individuals and families as well as group bookings wanting to do the ceramic painting. All bookings of 10 people or less can be booked easily via their website.
The Clay Café offers a wonderful breakfast menu which is served from 9am until 11.30am, and a vast lunch menu from 11.45am – 4.30pm. Food is made fresh from scratch every day, so food is served when ready and is always a hit!
Food on offer varies from wraps, salads, pizzas, burgers, and pasta all prepared with fresh ingredients on the day. They cater for vegetarians and vegans as well as being halaal friendly. Their kid's menu offers a variety of options to suit each child’s taste.
The Clay Café offers both adult and children’s parties (4 years and up), school outings, hen parties and team buildings and of course a delicious menu to choose from. Please note the below regarding parties and group bookings:

There is no minimum with parties, however, please note there is a maximum allowance of 20 kids and 20 adults OR a total of 40 adults for an adult party.

The Clay Cafe is open daily during the school holidays from 9am-5pm.
Bookings available online on their webpage (limited walk-in space available on a first come first serve basis).
COST: The studio fee is R40 plus the value of the chosen item/s (ranging from R20-R300 based on size and shape).
Bookings are set at 3 hours long, however, should you require a longer seating period please state this in the 'request' section when you book a table online.
Party packages available range from R110 to R155 per child depending on the size of the item selected to be painted and whether or not a party box is required. Additional costs are required for catering for both adults and children.
