Meer oor die skool by www.bolandautism.org.za.

Fun Run above Paarl in aid of children with autism

Taalmonument again hosts event filled with fun, pleasant picnics and some sweat
Given that an estimated 7 000 children with autism are born yearly in South Africa, it's the best time to step up for a jog or walk in aid of the Boland School for Autism, one of the few places where these children can be helped. In addition, many medals, cash prizes and lucky draws are at stake when the Afrikaans Language Museum and Monument’s (ATM’s) and Paarl Athletics Club's annual Evening Run takes place on Wednesday, 4 December 2019, on the picturesque Paarl Mountain. As always, participants and supporters can rely on the perfect picnic and kuiering places at the monument, where an adventurous playground and outdoor games also await young children. Moreover, participants and guests can admire this iconic monument dedicated to one of Africa’s youngest languages, Afrikaans, for free.

The fun 5km Word Race, starting at 18:40, is aimed at the whole family - even prams are welcome! The entry fee is R25 and participants enter with an original, fun Afrikaans word instead of a number. The 10km Evening Run, presented in accordance with the rules of Athletics South Africa and Boland Athletics, starts at 18:30; it follows an exciting and challenging route on tar and dirt roads. The entry fee is R60 and temporary numbers (for those who are not members of an athletics club) are available at R40. In both cases walkers are also welcome, so there is no excuse not to feel healthy, happy and generous.

Participants can register in three ways: online before 5 December at www.entrytime.com or www.sa-active.co.za (at R6 extra per registration), at the Language Monument (daily from 08:00 to 16:30) as well as on the day of the race itself between 17:00 and 18:15. Fans can enter for free. Make a great evening of it: bring a picnic basket or order one at the coffees shop on 021 863 2800 (R300 for two persons and R400 with basket included). This coffee shop will also offer refreshments and pizza for sale. Bring a blanket/cushions and torch, and please dress warmly.

Boland School for Autism, a registered non-profit organisation, was founded in 2010 and is home to tens of learners from as far as Tulbagh, Stellenbosch, Saron and Wellington. The school's team consists of teachers, assistants, occupational and speech therapists, a biokineticist, an educational psychologist and a school manager who firmly believe that every child has the right to education. Parents cannot always afford all these services; therefore, the monument offers this opportunity to help raise money. More on the school at www.bolandautism.org.za.

For inquiries about the 10km race, contact Sybrand du Plessis on 083 770 5107, and for inquiries about the 5km Word Run, contact Jeffrey Pietersen on 021 872 3441 or marketing2@taalmuseum.co.za.
