What is the Cradle of Creativity Festival?
The Cradle of Creativity Festival 2026 is South Africa’s only international festival dedicated to theatre and performing arts for children and young people.
Presented by ASSITEJ South Africa, the festival brings world-class artists to Johannesburg. This year, families can discover 21 productions from 10 countries.
The programme includes theatre, dance, circus and interdisciplinary performances. Moreover, productions cater for children from as young as one year old through to teens and adults.
The Johannesburg festival takes place at the Market Theatre from 31 August to 6 September 2026.

The programme offers much more than simply sitting down to watch a show.
Instead, families can explore an exciting mix of performances and interactive experiences throughout the festival.

- Golden Memories by Circus Zambia
- EyeCatchers by De Stilte Dance Company, created for children aged 1 to 5
- The Forest by Contemporary Dance Lab, an interactive dance experience
- Gizo Gizo, a musical from Ghana
- Jefferson Dirks-Korkee’s award-winning Rooilug
