Experience the Magic: Disney Ice Slides at Canal Walk

Last night, my family and I were whisked away into a world of frosty fun and Disney magic at the launch of the Disney Ice Slides at Canal Walk, in association with PEP. It was an evening filled with laughter, excitement, and a touch of adventure—perfect for families looking for memorable activities this holiday season in Cape Town.

A Slippery Slope of Fun

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the Island Slide. My 7-year-old daughter couldn’t get enough of it, zipping down with glee and lighting up with joy every single time. My 4-year-old son was slightly more cautious but still enjoyed a few attempts, making memories in his own way. The Ocean Slide was another family favourite, offering a unique thrill that delighted the crowd. The kids weren’t the only ones having fun—I decided to take the plunge too, and the excitement was contagious!

Inspired by Moana 2 Magic

The Disney Ice Slides also drew inspiration from the new Disney blockbuster, Moana 2 (now showing in cinemas). This influence was beautifully reflected in the decor, immersing us in an oceanic paradise reminiscent of Moana’s adventurous spirit. From tropical elements to mesmerizing visuals that echoed the film's themes, every corner of the venue exuded the magic of Disney storytelling. It was a treat for fans of the movie and added an extra layer of wonder to the experience.

Sweet Treats and Snacking Galore (Launch Event Exclusive)

No family outing is complete without delicious snacks, and Canal Walk didn’t disappoint at the launch event! The kids loved indulging in royal icing cookies and a wide array of sweets, while we treated ourselves to savoury snacks like fruits, burgers, wraps, chicken strips and much more. The cherry on top was the incredible ice cream vouchers we received from Milky Lane!

Another unexpected delight was receiving Teawsome bubble tea vouchers for the whole family. Each of us got to enjoy a refreshing and flavourful bubble tea, a fun and tasty way to wind down after all the excitement.

It’s important to note that these snacks, sweets, and vouchers were special perks provided exclusively for the launch event and are not part of the regular Disney Ice Slides experience. Be sure to plan for your own treats when you visit as most of these are available from vendors at Canal Walk!

Photo Memories and Meeting Santa

One of the most memorable parts of the evening was the opportunity to capture special moments through professional photos. Action shots of the kids (and adults!) speeding down the slides were taken, and Santa Claus made the experience even more magical. The kids had a chance to sit on Santa’s lap, share their Christmas wishes, and have their photo taken with him. After the fun, you could browse through all the photos taken—from thrilling slide shots to precious moments with Santa—and choose your favourites to print at an additional cost. The process was seamless and incredibly quick, thanks to the friendly and efficient photo staff members who were always ready to help. Friendly Staff and Family Fun The friendly and helpful staff made the entire event even more enjoyable. From assisting at the slides to guiding us through the photo selection process, every team member went above and beyond to ensure a smooth and pleasant experience for all. Their kindness and professionalism created a warm, family-friendly atmosphere that added to the magic of the evening.

Sand Play: A Sensory Heaven

Another standout activity was the sand play area, where the kids could enjoy playing with snow-like sand. This sensory experience was a delight for little hands, sparking creativity and fun as they dug, moulded, and explored the unique texture of this "snowy" sand. It was a perfect addition to the event, offering an engaging and calming activity that added to the magic of the evening.
