Discover a World of Colour in Grommels
Grommels is a gentle and playful children’s theatre production about Bluegrommel and Yellowgrommel, the last two colours in a grey world.
Their small world begins to change when a live audience appears and the wall between them starts to turn. As these two opposites discover one another, colour, nature and connection slowly return.
The largely non-verbal performance uses movement, colour, sound and imagination to tell its story. It is filled with humour, visual storytelling and moments of quiet wonder.
Because the production is not dependent on spoken language, it is accessible and engaging for children across different ages, abilities and language backgrounds.
Award-Winning Children’s Theatre in Cape Town
Created and performed by Angelique Filter and Robert Hindley, Grommels has been warmly received by families, educators and young audiences.
The production received the Kanna Award for Best Children’s Theatre and an Ovation Award at the National Arts Festival in 2025. In 2026, it also received the kykNET Fiësta Award for Best Achievement in Children’s and Youth Theatre.
Celebrating hope, discovery and connection, this special production reminds families that beauty and joy can be found in quiet simplicity. It also shows how nature’s hopeful colours can grow again when we open our eyes to the world around us.
The show is suitable for children aged 2 to 9 years.

Prize Details
There are three family prizes available.
Each winning family will receive:
- Four tickets to see Grommels
- Tickets held in the family’s name at the Baxter Theatre ticket office
