Tutankhamun exhibition Cape Town

Tutankhamun exhibition Cape Town

I always thought I would like to visit Egypt, now I know and have to visit Egypt!

We attended the Thutankhamun exhibition in Grand West. I was not sure what to expect at all and upon our entry I thought, "Oh man, I surely hope there is more to it than just looking at gold figurines and reading old manuscripts"... We all received a hand held audio device and as we strolled down we saw people sitting in a black room, we joined them. The TV screen said a show was about to start in 5 minutes and so we waited.

Not expecting anything we watched an old film about a boy and his dreams - the beginning of the story that lead to the discovery of Tutankhamun.  I loved how they got me intrigued by inviting us on the journey so we were able to share the joy and awe of the discovery. We felt like it was our discovery , getting caught up in his reality as "we" dug through a small whole and used a candle to see the contents of the tomb... the lights went on and we walked through a small opening in the black studio "with" the archeologist to see the first discovery. Oh the anticipation...

But wait, there's more!

I was totally amused by the actual size and attention to detail.

Im not going to give away the whole story - but I would like to add some notes.

Do not rush through it.

Take your notebook and or camera with you.

They only charge for older kids and adults. You will most probably regret it if you take your under seven years with, as you really want to listen to every word of the commentary and they may not find it as interesting. There are loads of other entertainment at Grand West if you consider splitting up so you can focus and drink in all the information. If you insist on taking them ask for earphones in stead of the handheld device only.

Commentary only in English- that is my only crit, perhaps consider other languages next time as there is so much to learn one would not want language to be a barrier.

Yes GO!
