Raising Readers

Our children our growing up in a vastly different world to the one you and I grew up in. It is fast paced, instantaneous and technologically driven.  Consequently education has to evolve.  However, amongst so much change, one thing remains constant: a child has to learn to read.

Learning to read is a multi-layered process and does not start when a child enters Grade 1. Think of learning to read as a journey that the Parent undertakes with the child from the moment they are born well into the Primary school years. Parents play a major role in preparing their child to read!

Simply put Teachers teach reading and Parents raise readers.

RAISING READERS is a literacy workshop consultancy and was founded by Marian Bailey, a remedial therapist, teacher and Mom.  It was created with the aim of empowering parents & educators with knowledge, skills and tools to help them get their children ready for reading and to support their children as they learn to read & write.

Raising Readers offers sound advice for all ages and stages of the reading process in the form of inspirational talks, parent workshops, teacher training and sensory learning packs.

With the right encouragement and guidance all children learn to read but the goal is to create a solid foundation and the best environment so that the child becomes a good reader and an avid reader. To do this a child needs to have fun as they learn to read and this is the central focus of Raising Readers.

Learning important literacy concepts, such as letters and sight words, takes repetition. Raising Readers has developed the following sensory learning packs to practice these concepts repetitively but using diversity.  The multi-sensory kits are based on the belief that if a child is hearing, seeing, touching and moving he is learning.  This is the reason that the kits are having excellent results and are essential for any home or school to practise shapes, letters, numbers and sight words the fun way.

Reading is the foundation of all future learning.
