Ludwig’s Roses, Pretoria North

Ludwig’s Roses is a rose farm in northern Pretoria. Situated amongst hundreds of roses, this farm offers a tranquil and idyllic respite from the hustle and bustle of city life - it is absolutely beautiful. Order your gourmet picnic basket from ‘The Rose Kitchen restaurant and treat yourself and your family to a day of beauty.

This venue offers a large grass area with various picnic and braai spots and an animal touch farm. The play area is clean and well-kept.

Willow Feather Farm, Irene

We used to visit this farm with my parents when we were little and I still love it. Willow Feather Farm is so peaceful with lots of trees and a variety farm animals - it offers our children the experience of a farm even though we are in the city. The quaint tea garden offers pre-packed picnic basket for you to enjoy on the farm and the setting makes for great family photos.

Groenkloof Nature Reserve, Groenkloof

The Groenkloof Reserve is popular among hikers, mountain bikers and riders as it offers a variety of hiking and biking trails as well as guided horse riding trails. You can take a swim in the river and go on a game drive and the reserve has a number of picnic and braai areas available.

Springbok Park, Hatfield

Although this park is open to the public, it is not overcrowded and allows for lots of space to run around in. The blooming flowers in summer are something to behold.

Botanical Gardens, Pretoria

Enjoy a relaxing family picnic in these well-manicured and landscaped gardens. The park is split in two by a quartzite koppie offering the visitors an interesting look into two different worlds of vegetation.

Mountain Sanctuary Park, Magaliesberg

The name of this park, Mountain Sanctuary, describes it perfectly: it is a sanctuary of peace and tranquillity in the mountains. Here you will find hiking trails, picnic spots as well as braai facilities. Be sure to book before you go as they only allow 180 people into the reserve per day.

This used to be one of our favourite picnic spots when I was little and jumping off the cliff into the water was my biggest challenge, and later, biggest joy. 

The swimming area is large and there are a variety of shaded picnic and braai spots to choose from.
