Oudtshoorn Scale annual radio control fly-in event, celebrating its 50th year.
This year we will be celebrating scale in the spirit it was a few years back before the rules changes. Although Oudtshoorn Scale is by nature a radio controlled scale aircraft fly-in, due to the size and the venue we had to adhere to the SAMAA Airshow criteria which excluded many of the old regulars who did not meet the gold rating. We have worked closely with SAMAA and for the 50th event we have a special grant on the SAMAA Airshow ruling. All scale aircraft weighing less than 5kg can be flown by a SOLO rated pilot, all scale aircraft above 5kg must be flown by a SILVER rated pilot. The SAMAA GOLD and Vlamgat Airshow ruling will remain in place for scale jets and turbine powered aircraft.
Other great news is after negotiating with AIFA(the flight school) we have secured four full flying days like in the past, this means flying will start Thursday morning right through to Sunday late afternoon. Pilots will be able to setup on Wednesday afternoon already. We have also secured space in their main hangar for overnight storage of planes in a secure environment.
We are also welcoming some old disciplines which used to form part of Scale in the past, like the Old Timer event which will take place at our registered SAMAA club field. Free flight and Control which will also have their own venue this year.
We have also decided as an incentive for the 50th the first 50 online entries will be half the normal entry fee, the website will be updated soon to start accommodating online entries.
Trust to see all the regulars, the lost souls and some new faces for this year’s celebration event!!
