The Opportunity to Support the Gift of the Givers Foundation
Capegate partners with the Gift of the Givers on a National in-centre Food Drive

Cape Town, April 2020 –Capegate Shopping Centre has partnered with the Gift of the Givers Foundation, the largest disaster response, non-governmental organization in Africa on a national in-centre food drive. In light of all that is happening with the COVID-19 crisis and to support our fellow South Africans and those in need, a food collection point has been placed outside Pick ‘n Pay Capgate.

Gift of the Givers Foundation’s aim is to provide relief for identified disasters. The foundation had a passion for hunger alleviation and distributes in excess of 100 000 food parcels annually, prepare and serve hot meals at their own centres whilst supporting existing feeding schemes through the donation of thousands of meals on a daily basis.

With this initiative we are able to provide unconditional support to many people that are in need. In this unprecedented time, all we can do as South Africans, is support one another, consider those around us who are less fortunate and remember that we are all in this together.”

Food items to be collected

• 2 min noodles
• Beans
• Canned food
• Coffee
• Flour
• Long life milk
• Mielie meal
• Oats
• Pasta
• Peanut butter & jam
• Rice
• Soup mix + lentils
• Sugar
• Sunflower oil
• Tea

The food collected will be added to the Gift of the Givers national food intervention programme and distributed to the most distressed and vulnerable citizens affected by the lockdown.

This initiative will drive awareness, show support and bring South Africans together at a time where it is needed the most.

The food drive is supported by all Hyprop Shopping Centres including; Atterbury Value Mart, Canal Walk Shopping Centre, Capegate, Clearwater, Hyde Park Corner, Rosebank Mall, Somerset Mall, The Glen and Woodlands.
