Art lovers, foodies, outdoor enthusiasts and those looking for a city escape – take note that an exciting new weekend long event called Pure Porterville has been launched onto the Cape events calendar.
An event that promises to fast make a name for itself, Pure Porterville will be taking place in the picturesque Swartland town of Porterville from Friday 5 October to Sunday 7 October.
Pure Porterville provides visitors with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the many wonderful country town offerings that make rural living so appealing – plus a rare opportunity to visit artists in their studios to view and purchase their art. Over ten artists will open their studios to the public for the weekend and visitors can expect jewellery, ceramics, art and craft, woodwork, crochet, quilting, beading, mosaics, the famous Porterville Farmer’s Market and more.
Local artists will also be facilitating ceramic and painting workshops over the course of the weekend.
In addition to special menus from the restaurants in the town and from the Porterville Farmer’s Market, foodies can look forward to treats like delicious traditional fare, high tea and Thai street food. The Porterville Farmer’s Market provides a not-to-be-missed opportunity to stock up on fresh local produce, baked goodies, artisanal breads, preserves and many other delicacies. See more about them at www.portervillemarket.co.za .The regular Church Bazaar allows visitors the chance to purchase hand crafted goods made by community members.
Beer and pizza lovers be sure not to miss a visit to the craft brewery, Indie Ale, for beer tasting and thin crust wood-fired pizzas. For the more active, Pure Porterville will also include a mountain bike cycling event, a fun run and a golfing day.
Saturday morning will see a grand parade take place through the streets of the town that will feature a collection of vintage cars, cadette band and “trompoppies”.
The Pure Porterville weekend has something for everyone, and in addition to the events listed above there will be special entertainment for children laid on at the school hall. Nearly all of the Pure Porterville attractions are within walking distance from each other, so visitors can park and stroll through the town, enjoying the art exhibitions, stopping for a meal, buying local fare – all with a beautiful mountain backdrop as Porterville is nestled at the foot of the Olifants Mountains.
Porterville is only 150 km’s from Cape Town and visitors are encouraged to stay over the entire weekend and get a taste of village life, during which time they can directly engage with the participating artists in their personal work-spaces, take part in the organised sporting events, sample the delicious fare, and experience everything else that the town has to offer.
Tickets are NOT required for the Pure Porterville weekend. For more information visit www.portervilletourism.co.za or contact Porterville Tourism Office (022-931 3732).
