Autumn Open Garden at Soil for Life

Age Groups

  • 13+

The theme, ‘Start where you are, use what you have and do what you can’, explores growing food in an earth-friendly way using rubbish and readily-available materials.

It’s a wonderful opportunity to learn from Soil for Life’s friendly team of experienced organic gardeners. They will be giving talks and practical demonstrations throughout the day on composting, feeding the soil, hidden ‘treasures’ in the garden, water-wise gardening methods (such as hugel kultuur beds) and growing sprouts and micro-greens. You’ll be encouraged and inspired by their methods and the way Soil for Life has used everyday waste to create their abundant organic food garden.

Refreshments, plants and organic veggies will be on sale. Entry is R20 per person and all profits go towards Soil for Life’s community Home Food Gardens programme, to help people in low-income areas create sustainable home food gardens.
