AUTUMN LEAF PEOPLE

Autumn is one of my favourite seasons. Not only does the weather start cooling down (I am a winter baby and don’t do well in the heat) but it also offers a multitude of craft materials and ideas to do with the children.
My eldest daughter is 4 now and loves drawing people but despite her best attempts my 2 year old has not yet mastered this skill. As such I thought a fun activity for them to do would be to make leaf people pictures with all of the leaves that have fallen off the trees.
This activity is great because not only does it get the little ones outside for a while collecting materials to make their people but it also teaches them about Body Awareness. We had already collected a bag of leaves after doing our autumn scavenger hunt and so we were able to get stuck right in.
What you need for this Autumn Kids Activity
• A collection of autumn leaves
• Coloured card to stick your leaves to
• Glue
• Googly eyes
• Other items to decorate your leaf people
Place all of your leaves in front of your children and get them to choose which leaves they want to use to represent each body part. Try to get them to tell you what they are choosing the leaves for and for the older children you could get them to tell you what each body part does as they select it. You can also get them to name the colours of the leaves.
Get them to put glue on the leaves and stick them down in the correct places. It can get messy for the younger ones but they love it and it is good for their finger and strength.
Once they have their leaf people assembled they can stick on eyes and other bits and bobs.
